About the Sanctuary

A Place Set Apart

The Sanctuary of Saint Michael exists for one reason: that the Prince of the Heavenly Host might be better known, more deeply loved, and more faithfully invoked — by anyone, anywhere, at any hour of the night.

The Mission

“Michael, his name means: Who is like God? He was first to do battle for the honor of Christ, and his only cry against his enemy was this.”

— From a homily on the Archangels

This is a devotional sanctuary, not a museum. Every page was built so that the tired, the frightened, the seeking, and the grateful might find here the same thing the faithful have always found at a shrine: an image, a prayer, a candle, and the assurance that the Archangel stands wherever he is called.

Why This Sanctuary Exists

Not everyone can travel to Monte Sant'Angelo or to Mont-Saint-Michel. The great shrines stand where they have stood for centuries, on cliffs and in caves, kept by monks and by the steady prayers of the poor. But devotion does not wait for travel.

Saint Michael is the patron of the gravely hour — the hour of judgment and the hour of death, the moments a soul most needs a defender. A sanctuary that lives in the pocket and the lamplight meets people in exactly those hours.

So this site keeps the old things faithfully: the Chaplet as it was revealed, the prayers as the Church has prayed them, the art as the masters rendered it. And it adds the one thing a digital shrine can give that stone cannot — a wall of candles where strangers pray for one another across every border.
